New Blog, New Business, New Projects

Hello everyone!

It has been a while since I've made a blog post so forgive me is this seems rather uncoordinated at times. Formally the author of the Ego Scriba blog. Sadly due to the last post being back in 2018 it seems that the blog is no longer functional and I can no longer add to it.  So I figured I might as well make a new blog to tie up with my new business Armstrong Calligraphy and use this blog to talk about new and old projects, things I am trying out and the materials I am using.

The old blog is still up and running so you can still go back and see my older posts (mostly about killer rabbits).

Armstrong Calligraphy

So I finally took the advice from several people to start a calligraphy business. I've been up and running for almost three months now with five commissions (one currently in the works which I will talk about later). So right now there's not much to talk about other than you can find examples of my current and previous works here: Armstrong Calligraphy

The Facebook page is a stand in until I can put a proper website together, but for now it will do. So please like, share and follow me there as well as here.

New Projects

So the new project ties in with my current commission. My commission comes from a client/friend in the Unites States. The commission itself is a reproduction of a manuscript written some time between 1400 and 1409 called "The Flower of Battle" written by Fiore Dei Liberi. What makes this commission unique is that it is the first time I will be using genuine calfskin manuscript grade vellum. This is the same material that the original manuscript was written on. I will also be using traditionally made Iron Gall ink and Egg Tempera paints to make something as close to the original manuscripts of the 14th-15th Century.

During the planning phase it was mentioned that a teacher of his is going to be teaching Illuminated Manuscripts to her class and she was very interested in the project. So we decided to document the process from start to finish so that she could use it as an example to her class. So I hope I do a good job both for the client and for the class!

I will be making the first post in this series very soon.

--------------

I hope you all enjoy the new blog and I'll try my best to keep this more up to date than my previous blog.

See you next time.
